Tal and Welcome to the City of Varn Infirmary!

Please note the following rules that must be followed in the infirmary by ALL infirmary staff and visiting physicians.

1. AUTHORITY

Varn Physicians always have final authority in regards to treatment decisions within the Infirmary. All decisions may be appealed to the Head of Caste or High Physician who will make the final decision or judgment.

2. MEMBERSHIP IN THE PHYSICIANS’ CASTE OF GOR

ALL Physicians and Apprentices SHALL be members in good standing with the Physicians’ Caste of Gor (PCoG). In order to have infirmary privileges, proof of standing will be verified and it’s expected that all Physician’s and Apprentices provide copies of their PCoG Apprentice Test regardless of status of completion.

3. VISITING PHYSICIANS

Physicians who have come to help with an emergency or are merely visitors are encouraged to provide care, but are required to immediately defer to a Physician of Varn should one come on scene. It will then be at the discretion of the Physician of Varn to decide to take over or allow the initial Physician complete the treatment.

4. APPRENTICES

Apprentices are encouraged to hone their skills and knowledge by attempting to treat in the infirmary. Apprentices will be required to be under the observation of a full physician of Varn the first time they perform a treatment or exam, unless the situation is an emergency. To which then the apprentice is authorized to perform treatment to the best of their abilities until a full physician arrives.

5. 30 DAY PROBATION

ALL potential Physicians and Apprentices wishing to serve in the City of Varn Infirmary MUST undergo a 30 day probationary period before they will be accepted as a permanent part of its staff. IF IT IS SHOWN THAT YOUR KNOWLEDGE WARRANTS A LESSER PROBATION PERIOD, IT WILL BE SHORTENED.

During this time, you will be assessed for your knowledge, both book and medical; your bedside manner; and your ability to get along with the rest of the infirmary staff. At the end of this probationary period, the current infirmary staff will provide their assessment to the Chief Physician and he/she will make the determination of whether you are allowed to treat patients and in what capacity.

6. PHYSICIAN’S ASSISTANTS

Infirmary Slaves are designated Physician’s Assistants by the Chief Physician, the Head of Caste.  They are not only authorized to perform duties assigned to them by their owner or Chief Physician (and their delegates) of the City but also have authority vested in them to perform necessary rudimentary and treatments to sustain life. Physician’s Assistants are authorized to perform Battle Medic duties in time of warfare or city defenses.

Physician’s Assistants have the ability to be trained in first aid in order to assist Physicians in the event of emergencies and in order to reduce the workload of attending Physicians. Physician’s Assistants hold no caste however are permitted to perform caste work only after completion of the Physician’s Assistant programme.

On-site training will involve care and cleaning of Infirmary property, stemming bleeding, taking samples and performing rudimentary tests as well as proper cleaning of wounds in a triage situation. Physician’s Assistants will be expected to provide comfort to patients in a non-sexual manner.

7. TREATMENTS

All treatments are to be logged on the appropriate form and the medical practitioner (Physician/Apprentice/Assistant) is to retain the chat log of your procedures for their Skill Set. There are NO EXCEPTIONS to this rule!

Forms to be signed and sealed if full physician. Apprentices/Assistants will give completed forms to the Chief Physician so that they may seal them. All treatment/slave forms to be filed with the Chief Physician. NO EXCEPTIONS. THE FORMS MUST ALSO BEAR THE CHIEF PHYSICIAN’S SEAL AND SIGNATURE TO BE VALID.

8. KANDA

Kanda is to be used in limited situations. There will be NO over-administering. The abuse of Kanda will result in discipline, which may lead up to loss of privileges from the infirmary.

9. PROPER DRESS

While working in the infirmary staff is to dress according to the city’s rules on FW/FM clothing. Caste Colors or Varn Caste Sash or Armband preferred.

10. PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT

All infirmary staff must maintain professionalism at all times.
If there is another staff member available, the physician is not allowed to work on a family member or loved one. They may assist if invited to do so by the attending physician.

All staff must adhere to professional code of conduct, including appropriate clinical standards and relationships. Inappropriate behaviour between staff and patients may result in discipline. If you wish to engage in relations with a patient, physicians and other staff shall recuse themselves to mitigate any potential complaints or optics of conflicts of interest.

11. VIOLATION OF CASTE CODES

Any Green who violates the Physician Code of Ethics or any Physicians’ Caste of Gor (PCoG) Standards will be brought before the Magistrate which may result in removal from the Caste.

12. AMENDMENTS

Any or all of the above may be altered or amended at any time as deemed necessary by the Head of Caste of the Physician’s of Varn, the Chief Physician.  These laws are compliant with the Physician’s Caste of Gor (PGoC) and should the codes of the PGoC or Physician’s of Varn.

If there are any issues within the infirmary, bring them to either the Chief Physician and they will be dealt with accordingly. As per the laws of the City of Varn and the PCoG, the running of the infirmary is handled completely by the Head of Caste within the City.
